Our Staff
Dcn. Ben is a native of Bainbridge Island, WA, and attended University of Washington where he completed his undergraduate degree in Humanities. He finished his masters degree at Regent College in Vancouver, BC. He taught at Trinity Christian School for 8 years (6th Grade and High School). Dcn. Ben has been the SBH program director since 2019. He and his wife Sara attend All Saints Anglican Church, where he serves as a deacon. They have three children: Charlotte, Graham, and Austin.
Fr. Mark grew up on island, and attended Hawaii Pacific University where he completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Before planting All Saints Anglican Church in Honolulu, where he is currently the rector, Fr. Mark worked as a Humanities and debate teacher at Trinity Christian School for 4 years. He has been a parent, tutor, and board member at SBH since 2018. He and his wife Rachel have six children: Tirzah, Penelope, Ambrose, Moses, Violet, and Puah.
Jenny grew up in Southern California where she attended Paloma Valley High School and Riverside Community College. She and her husband, Josh, have lived in Hawaii since 2012, and has been on staff at SBH since 2020. Jenny has been a long time homeschool mom, and has three SBH students: Emery, Ada, and Ezekiel. She has experience as a children’s ministry teacher and youth group leader at her church. She has a love for children and a passion to see them learn about Christ. Auntie Jenny and her family are members at Hawaii Kai Church.
Dave is a retired Navy nuclear engineer who has now lived in Hawaii for over 30 years. He received in BS degree in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and has a MBA degree from the University of Nebraska and a MA in Christian Apologetics from Southern Evangelical Seminary. He served in the United State Navy for 22 years and has since loved to spend his retirement investing in the next generation. He taught Science at Arise Academy, Sunday School, and was the Boy Scout Scoutmaster for Trail Life USA Woodlands Trail. He and his wife Cindy have two adult children, Timothy and Courtney, and one granddaughter. He attends Kalihi Union Church in Honolulu.
Colleen grew up in New York City where she she went to high school and college. She received her bachelor’s degree in English with a Literature Concentration from the City College of New York and a teaching license from Chaminade University. She has taught English Language Arts at Wai’anae High School in the Teach For America program for two years. She attends All Saints Anglican Church in Honolulu and is excited about joining the SBH staff!
Fr. Chris, originally from the Midwest, has lived on and off in Hawaii since 2012. He holds a Phd from Wheaton College, and has done additional studies at the University of Chicago Divinity School and the University of Oxford. He has taught at Northland International University, Cedarville University, and Trinity Christian School. He has written and co-written six books, as well as numerous articles and reviews. He is currently the President of Oahu Theological Seminary in partnership with Bethlehem Seminary and Training Leaders International. He and his wife Katie have four boys: Luke, Simon, Elliot, and Noah. He serves as a priest at All Saints Anglican Church in Honolulu.
Katie and her family have been a part of the SBH community since 2020. She has a degree in Secondary Education in History and English from Northland International University. Her son, Luke, is a graduate of SBH, and currently attends Wheaton College. She is passionate about teaching literature and writing. She and her family attend All Saints Anglican Church.
Cheri has called Hawai’i home for over 40 years. She received her BFA in Painting and Drawing from University of Hawaii Manoa. She taught art for 22 years at Trinity Christian School and has been involved in the SBH community teaching the after-school art club for a year. She and her husband, Anthony, attend Calvary Chapel Kaneohe. They have four adult children.
Emily grew up in Connecticut and was a homeschool student herself all the way through 12th grade. She has a degree in management from the United States Coast Guard Academy and has a certification as Personal Trainer from the American College of Sports Medicine. She has been a dedicated homeschool parent since 2016. Her family have been part of the SBH community since 2019, and she has attended Daybreak Church since 2017 with her husband Riley and their four children: Charlotte, Isla, Talula, and Jairus.
Kelly is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools, and attended college at Point Loma Nazarene University. She then went to school for Elementary Education at the University of Hawaii. Kelly worked at Central Union Preschool as an assistant teacher. The Maunakea-Payne family has been a part of SBH since 2019 and Kelly has taught Nature Studies and Humanities classes. The She and her husband Zach attend Anchor Church and have four children: Eliana, Michiah, Jude, and Nava.
Sara was born and raised on Oahu. She received two bachelor’s degrees from Trinity Western University in General Studies (English Minor, Biology Concentration) and Elementary Education. She has worked at Honolulu Christian Church Preschool, Langley Meadows Elementary School, and substitute taught at Hawaii Baptist Academy. She was the full time 6th Grade teacher at Trinity Christian School for three years, and taught Nature Studies at SBH in 2018. She is married Dcn. Ben, the SBH Program Director. They attend All Saints Anglican Church with their three children: Charlotte, Graham, and Austin.
Auntie Cameron was a teacher at Great Hearts Academy in Phoenix, AZ before moving to Oahu and joining SBH in 2023. She has a passion for learning, thinking deeply, drawing others to the Lord through stories of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, and the formation of the moral imagination of her students. She graduated with honors from Baylor University with a dual BA in Great Texts of the Western Tradition and Arabic and Middle East Studies. Cameron attends New Hope Oahu.
Jennie grew up all over the country, but graduated from Lejeune High School in North Carolina. She attended the College of William and Mary and has extensive teaching experience at the preschool level. She taught preschool at Merritt Academy and at Ebenezer UMC. She has been on staff at SBH since 2019. She and her husband Eric attend All Saints Anglican Church, and have two daughters: Brynnlee and Teagan.
