RSVP — Mokauea Island Excursion

The non-profit we will be going with is called Mauliola Ke`ehi: '“Mauliola Ke`ehi is a Hawaiian culture focused, placed-based education program steeped in rich history that provides transformative healing through culture and art. The Papa (Reef) of Keʻehi forms the foundation of our outdoor classroom that is fun and exciting, igniting inspiration for the next generation.”

Here are the details for the Mokauea Island excursion:

  • We’ll meet at New Hope Canoe Club at 9am and plan to be back by lunch. We’ll have our sack lunches under the tent and kids can also swim when we are pau.

  • We can do 30 people each day including kids and adults and a Lifeguard.

  • Children under 5 must bring their own life vest.

  • A sign-up/waiver online form will be sent in another email, all people coming need to fill out that form please if a parent has more than one kid they need to do it for each kids.You must fill this consent form out to be able to go on this excursion.

  • WHAT TO BRING:

    1) Clothes you donʻt mind getting dirty (if you are wearing a bathing suit, you must have clothes over the suit)

    2) Reef walking foot attire (tabis) and/or covered shoes for walking on the island (there may be thorny plants/shrubs and glass

    3) Sun protection: sunscreen with no oxybenzone, sunglasses, hat, etc.

    4) Re-usable water bottles and utensils. NO ONE TIME PLASTIC PLEASE

    5) Please leave towels/extra clothes in car. We provide life-vest for adults and over 50pds, Toddlers (email to reserve), under 3 please provide your own

    6)We will be boarding canoes to paddle to the island...so please no large bags. I will have a dry bag for phone, keys etc.

    7) Please bring a beach chair to sit on.

    8) Bring a lunch!

  • Like all our excursions, parents will need to be present during excursion unless you give express permission to another parent to be responsible and liable for your child. SBH as a program is not directly responsible for the safety or well being of students while on optional excursions due to our limited insurance coverage. However, we will of course all take care of each other and watch out for the kids together while we’re on these excursions!
